Construction for the Methodist Church Building started in 1949 with cornerstone laying. The steel beams were put in place by crane operator, J. Ralph Murphy (Father of Ann Campbell). The land was donated by Anderson McClung.

The magnificent red brick structure with stained glass windows was constructed at a total cost of $60,000. The money was raised by pledges, fund raising and donations. There were about 200 members, including 60 active women who contributed with fund raising and furnishing the church interior needs.

October 1, 1950, Memorial United Methodist Church was dedicated by Bishop Lloyd C. Wicke, District Superintendent Dr. R. S. McClung and the church pastor, Rev. A. F. Gregory. A celebration followed the Sunday morning Dedication Service in the Parish Hall (now called the Fellowship Hall) with lunch for a large crowd. Sixteen ministers have served at Memorial U.M. Church over the years. Our current Pastor is Rev. Dan Lowther.

I Chronicles 28:10 “Take heed now, for the Lord hath chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary, be strong and do it.”

Memorial United Methodist Church continues to be strong with outreach missions and meeting local needs.
